OUR GO TO BABY ITEMS FOR SURVIVING NEWBORN CHAOS
This blog is a personal, tried and true list of items that us, The Breasties, will swear by! They made our lives so much easier. Especially in a time of confusion and uncertainty, all while falling madly in love with this new little human. Take a look! We hope you too will get some inspiration from them.
WHITNEY’S SURVIVAL LIST
Waking for night feeds is hard, especially when it’s so dark you can’t see where you are putting your boob. This gentle night light saved my bacon many times, and also thrilled the space nerd in me!
Babies love contact, especially when they are sleeping. This sling was amazing! I could carry my babies while I cleaned my house, and it was super useful out and about. I could even discreetly breastfeed in it.
Nothing pisses a baby off more than changing their diaper! We were worried our neighbors would think we were torturing the child every time we changed them. These butt wipe warmers were a game changer. It turned stressful, screaming diaper changes into a spa day for baby.
This is the number one burp cloth used in the UK. No English mother would leave the house without them. The material is Muslin which is super soft and absorbent. I rarely see these in the US, but it’s one thing that should make the leap across the pond.
This thing was amazing, super soft and super stretchy. We used it for about a million different things from a nursing shawl to a car seat cover. I even used it to line the shopping carts when baby was older so they weren’t chewing directly on the metal bars. And they come in such cute patterns and colors.
AMY’S SURVIVAL LIST
I had a hard time wrapping and tying the big cloth slings. This one was more stable and easier for me to adjust and I loved it!
This was probably, hands down, the best baby shower gift I received. My daughter is almost 4 years old and I’m still using it!! It was a wonderful warm-light welcome when I needed to see at 2am and not wake baby. It’s also touch on/off, which is amazing.
This was essential for us to be hands-free for a moment. My daughter also had a bout of GERD and couldn’t be laid flat for a few weeks. It gently rocked her and played music.
At first, I thought, nah I don’t need a rocking chair, but then we were gifted one and it was a game changer! Late night and early morning’s were spent rocking, soothing and feeding and I was so glad to have a comfortable place to do it. This is not the one I used, but find yourself the perfect rocking chair. It will make all the difference!
We had to bottle feed our daughter for the first 3 months. We had to measure how much she was drinking and the bottles were necessary. Waking up every two hours to feed her was hard enough, but waiting for the bottle to warm up while she was screaming was nerve wracking! This is an item I wish I WOULD have had to make this more efficient.
This is another item I found absolutely necessary. We use this boppy for more than just a breastfeeding pillow; propping baby up to get her neck stronger, keeping her secure in the middle and allowing her to practice sitting up, etc. It has many uses and we used it frequently.
